However, after trying the title, it is understood that this comparison was more an attempt to praise the title than to represent it accurately: approaching it to Dark Souls will convince many modern players, leading them to associate it with a much loved title, but the heart of this game beats to the rhythm of even older titles, such as the first The Legend of Zelda for the NES or Alundra, a little gem of the PlayStation 1 era.Īfter watching a cryptic introductory video, which merely presents the elements and places of the story, but not why it is there and the reason for the mission, the game puts us in control of the character in a short tutorial of the main gameplay mechanics. On the one hand, this mention is not entirely without merit: as soon as you enter the game world you will immediately realize that the Hyper Light Drifter narrative takes up the model of the "silent tale" dear to the developers From Software. Hyper Light Drifter has often been described as a "Dark Souls" title, even as a 2D Souls-like. Taking advantage of the console release scheduled for today July 26 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the time has come to give an opinion on the work of Heart Machine. The goal was undoubtedly ambitious: to replicate the emotions of NES and Master System titles of the time without being bound to the nostalgia factor as the only note of merit. Two years pass, the release date is approaching, and backers and fans of the title are thrilled for this 2d action RPG described by its developers, Heart Machine rookies, as "a title inspired by the classic 8-bit and 16-bit, with modern mechanics and design on a larger scale ”. Sure, there were a lot of expectations for this title, as for many others who manage to reach their kickstarter goal in less than 24 hours, but in the early stages not much was known about the game, and over time the interest subsided. Witcher has a much bigger narrative focus than the Souls games do and that carries a significant cost in resources.Hyper Light Drifter is a title that initially passed on the sly. That's not to say Witcher couldn't have much better combat, hell I'd say the same about the Soulsborne games even if they did it a lot better than the Witcher but I think people sometimes don't realize that game development is not this place of infinite resources to create whatever you like, ultimately games have to make certain concessions based on time constraints and money.

I do also wish the game was a lot harder than it was, I've used a few different mods which have helped in that regard but yeah.ĭark Souls is definitely trying to do something very different from Witcher, I would agree. As to the lock on, I never use it either but sometimes the character will target someone you don't want to when fighting a big group but it's not much of a problem to work around really. Still, it's not perfect and no game is or has come close to it for me. There are definitely things I would improve on Witcher 3 and that's after spending 500 hours in the game through multiple playthroughs, it is my favorite game.
